Eating omega-3 fatty acids may help keep our brain healthy for longer, according to recent research. Our brain shrinks with time, and the narrowing is accelerated for people with dementia.

In an 8-year study, researchers found that women who had high levels of omega-3 DHA and EPA in the blood had a larger brain than those who had a lower rate. The increase in volume was greatest in the hippocampus, a region of the brain associated with learning and memory – and a region hard hit by Alzheimer’s disease.
